Description
Sedimentary sequences in the northern part of the Baltic Artesian Basin (BAB) contain palaeogroundwaters that originate from meltwaters of continental glaciers that covered the area in Pleistocene. These waters are characterized by very light isotopic composition (δ18O values from −14 to −23‰) that is strongly depleted with respect to modern precipitation in the area (annual weighted mean δ 18O value of ≈−10 to −11‰). In the deepersouthern part of the BAB a high salinity brine is present, the evolution of which has never been studied in detail.
